Ground to aircraft optical communications platform for Nutronics
HPD engineers worked with a customer-supplied optical ray trace that defined the positions of more than three
dozen optical elements in this system for optical line-of-sight communications. The ray trace evolved through
multiple design iterations in collaboration with the customer. Each optical element was finally specified in
terms of position, stability over a range of operating conditions of temperature and vibration, and precision of
adjustment in six degrees of freedom (DOF). HPD designed in CAD the optical platform and all the optics mounts
and created mechanical drawings of all parts. HPD then consulted on the fabrication and assembly of the prototype.
